Lecture & Pizza Evening: "Cryogenic Cooling: Technologies, Challenges, and Best Practices"
Thursday, 06 March 2025, 17:00-19:00
Room 10/1, Physics Tower (Building 30.23)
Cooling to cryogenic temperatures is essential for various applications in quantum research, low-temperature physics, and material science. In this talk, an introduction to different cryostat technologies and comparison of their advantages and limitations is given. A particular focus will be on dilution refrigerators and demagnetization cooling—two key techniques for reaching the milli-Kelvin regime. Additionally, best practices and common pitfalls when setting up cryogenic experiments are discussed. Finally, exciting recent developments and future trends in low-temperature technology are explored.
